Miss Lily’s: Jamaican Vibes in NYC

Over the weekend, I tried out a new Jamaican themed restaurant in NYC called Miss Lily’s in SoHo. It’s a cool, scene-oriented spot brought to you by the owners of La Esquina and The Box and the Rockhouse hotel in Negril, Jamaica. They serve up modern versions of Jamaican favorites like jerk chicken, escovitch fish (which tasted pretty authentic), and curry goat. Miss Lily’s also has a decent cocktail menu of tropical influenced drinks and of course, Ting and Red Stripe. The decor is pretty upscale-cafeteria style with formica booths and the backroom is decked out like a downtown New York version of a Jamaican dancehall bar, with painted stacks of speakers and an impressive collection of reggae records on the wall. Overall, a cool spot that I’ll go back too, but as a regular visitor to (cheap!) Jamaica, it’s hard not to cringe at the prices. Entrees are around $15-$25 and the cocktails average about $12.
