Papaya Playa Project
The concept of a pop up retail shop is nothing new, but the idea of a pop up hotel is a new animal all its own. On the beach in Tulum, one of our favorite hotel sites, Design Hotels, has partnered up with some Euro pals to open up the world’s first luxury pop up hotel. It’s called the Papaya Playa Project and features 99 cabanas situated right on the water. The land itself was orignally destined to be the site of a new luxury hotel, but due to the financial crisis, it never happened. Oh well! Food will be provided by Copenhagen’s 42 Raw and Berlin’s Katerholzig.
The hotel will be open December 6, 2011 – March 5, 2012 and rates start at $70 for a cabana with a shared bathroom and $105/night with a private bathroom.
