Cliktrips likes the beach, palm trees, mountain hikes, desertscapes, forest walks, the jungle, tropical islands, swimming pools, lake swims, rocky seaside cliffs, sunsets, soundbaths, hot tubs, the occasional cold plunge, bicycle rides, road trips, spritzes of all kinds, lots of snacks and the colors pink and green. Cliktrips also enjoys late night techno parties, balearic rooftop hangs, weird weekenders, tropical sounds, trippy disco, and dancing ‘til dawn.

When I listen to music, I immediately begin to visual it. Where does it take me? Where would I listen to it? Am I driving through the mountains? Am I cruising down the Pacific Coast? Am I sailing around a tropical island? I think that’s why Balearic music, originally inspired by the early Ibiza lifestyle of the 70s and 80s, always appealed to me. It conjures up images of a very specific time and place that makes me feel good, happy even.

And while it’s fun to reminisce about the good old days, it’s easy to forget that there’s a ton a great new music out there inspired by and paying homage to that same Balearic feeling.

Recently, Pitchfork’s Phillip Sherburne put together a great list of current tracks worth checking out. I’ve highlighted some of my favorites (the CFCF album is tops!), but you can see the full list via Pitchfork.
