Rami Haykal grew up in Genova (aka Genoa), Italy, and since 2008 he and his business partner Jake Rosenthal have been throwing parties, running the (former) Glasslands venue, and booking shows under the name PopGun Presents in Brooklyn, NY. Below, he shares some of his favorite places to eat and drink in his hometown.

Pizzeria del Ponte - One of the best pizzerias in Genova. It’s worth trying the famous focaccia al formaggio with stracchino cheese. Via Pisa, 3

La Piedigrotta  - Really good seafood. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but will never disappoint. Try the octopus salad and the fish ravioli! Via Gianelli, 29

Le Cicale - Really good variety of wines and meats. Definitely worth ordering the steak tartare. Via Macaggi, 53 Rosso

Vivai del Castello - Really solid cheap lunch meal. Options are limited here,  but they serve very traditional pasta plates. Pesto is a must here! Via Romana di Quarto, 99

Sa Pesta - Located in the downtown area, Sa Pesta has really solid to go options, farinata and various veggie pies. Via dei Giustiniani, 16R

Gran Ristoro - Great panini shop in the old part of the city close to the port, lots of variety in hams, salami and various spreads. Via di Sottoripa, 27/R

La Strambata - Great for a drink or a cocktail right on the beach in Boccadasse. They also serve aperitivi/small tapas. Piazza Nettuno, 5r

Hemingway’s Pub  - This is where all the young Genoese people usually get drinks in Albaro. Via Caprera 11R

Also anywhere in Piazza delle Erbe is good for drinks too!
